The hotel will be cradled within the incredible Helgeland coastline, close to both Bodø and the Nordic gem, Lofoten and just above the Arctic Circle where summer days last forever and winter lit by the breathtaking Northern Lights. Located within the arctic wilderness of Norway’s Meløy municipality, Svart will perch atop the crystal-clear waters of the Holandsfjorden fjord, at the base of the glacier itself.
Svartisen is Norway’s second-largest glacier, 370 km with 60 glacier tongues. The glacier is over 200 meters thick and has moved up and down in volume and length over the years. It melted the most from 1930-1960 and started to increase again after that. In winter, the glacier increases by about one meter at the front of the glacier, and about 6-10 meters in thickness on the glacier plateau. During the summer period, the ice melts by about one meter on the glacier plateau, and the end of the glacier melts by about three meters. When more snow falls in winter than ice melts in summer, the glacier will grow.
